The following special features are available to current ALI students
at no additional cost:
Computer Labs
Two computer labs just for ALI students offer 52 computers. Students receive free access to the Internet and e-mail.
Language Lab
ALI's computer facilities include a language lab with 27 stations to help students practice speaking and listening skills.
Conversation Partners
One way students can meet Americans is by becoming a Conversation Partner. ALI students are matched with an American SDSU student and then meet once a week to practice English. Conversation Partners are only available during the school year and are subject to availability.
Pronunciation Clinic
The ALI offers students personalized articulation and accent modification
training. In addition to ALI's daily speaking classes and pronunciation
electives, the ALI Pronunciation Clinic runs Monday through Thursday
throughout the year and is open to all current students. Individuals
are initially assessed and evaluated by a certified ESL specialist.
Then using specialized software, customized audio/video lab assignments,
and teacher-created materials, students receive one-on-one instruction
in order to meet their individualized pronunciation and fluency
goals. Articulation of vowels and consonants, intonation, stress,
rhythm, and linking are all taught and explained. Increased intelligibility
and self-confidence will greatly benefit business professionals
and current/prospective university students alike.
Sports and Conversation Club
Students can practice social conversation with an IEC instructor while playing sports such as soccer, tennis, and basketball.
