The Fulbright Pre-academic Training Program is a benefit made available to incoming Fulbright grantees by the U.S. Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The Institute of International Education (IIE), Division of Enrichment and Professional Development has been appointed to administer the program. The program is designed to cover an orientation to the U.S. academic system, English language training and field-of-study preparation. The program is also aimed at building a basic understanding of current issues in U.S. society and a solid foundation of U.S. social values, both of which are necessary for successful intercultural communication in their host communities. Fulbright programs in general are not only intended to promote grantees professional development but also and very importantly promote mutual understanding among peoples.
