Take SDSU Credit Classes
The American Language Institute offers advanced international students a way to study at an American university without going through the normal university admissions process. During the San Diego State University Summer Term, through the American Language Institute, you may complete up to 12 units of undergraduate level coursework. Credits earned are listed on a permanent SDSU transcript and can be transferred to other universities.
How it Works
EAP Summer Study Abroad is for students who have met the TOEFL requirement or who obtain high scores on ALI placement tests. Students who choose to come without an official exam score may need to complete a semester or more of intensive English before enrolling in university courses.
Requirements
This program is for students who have scored at least 80iBT/213 CBT/550 PBT on the TOEFL, IELTS 6.5, CAE A/B, or score high enough on ALI tests. Proof of English proficiency is required to pre-qualify.

- If no space is available in a course, you must make an alternate selection.
- If you want to take a course that has prerequisites, you must bring your university transcript (translated into English) to prove you have met the requirements, or bring job background information to show the professor your qualifications.
- If there is space, the professor will accept you in the course and sign an official form.
- After you submit your form, you are enrolled in the course.
